This summer I spent 3 weeks on board of Grateful, where I had some of my life’s brightest, and most memorable experience. A unique blend of becoming one with sea and nature and getting to know many new interesting people. Sailing next to Dolphins in Gibraltar. Stargazing, with all boat instrument lights deemed during the night crossing. Sailing this massive, gracious boat during my night watch through the 24 knots storm. (Completely alone, Captain fully trusting me with his boat!). Yummy barbeques (Duane has a bbq on the boat which he brought with him from United States in the luggage to the surprise of Greek aiport customs). Interesting unaorthodox people who are looking to live off the grid. Exploring islands in the evenings. And a lot of conversations about life, past and future, goals and dreams. Captain Duane has a big heart and he welcomes you at his home, like an old friend. I felt instantly at ease. Duane is an easy going, people person, very trusting, and you won’t have any issues crewing with him. He helped me through a couple of hard moments in my own life with just listening and with kind words. Thank you Captain. If you are joining as a crew do be prepared to pull your weight in terms of all boat related work you have the ability and skills for. This isn’t just sailing. Night watches, cleaning, shopping, cooking, sailing, fixing bits and pieces.The work is shared in a balanced way but still if you are crew, this is something you will need to be willing to do for a few hours each day. In return, Duane will teach all he knows about living full time aboard and how to own and look after a vessel. Thank you Captain Duane.
