Southern Italy to sicily

Sept 28 2019

Cruising the southern tip of the Italian mainland, under the ‘ball of the foot’.

The coast line is mainly a bunch of 70’s built towns, we decide to just sail till the next dawn and enjoy the sunset from the sea.

We had fresh-frozen the yellowfin caught this afternoon and turned it into a nice poke salad for dinner. A little of the Greek white wine, and some rice and the evening was set.

The wind was slack, and with really no hurry, we backed off the throttle to 1200 rpm and glided at 4 knots, sipping a liter per hour.

The deep, inky, moonless dark night engulfed us, and the all-star show  began. Shooters,  satellites,  constellations and the milky-way all conspired to keep my eyes glued to the sky.

Eventually, I slipped into a deep sleep, confident in my autopilot and radar alarms.

I awoke to first light, finding our position only 40 miles from Sicily now.

Any time now, the wind is coming.
